The valley of the Ishikawa River, a tributary of the Yamato River, is a beautiful scenic spot with many beautiful waterfalls, collectively known as the 48 Falls of Takihata.
The Ishigawa of the river has its headwaters from mountains around 900 meters above sea level, including Mt. Iwayuku and Mt. Minami-Katsuragi, and many waterfalls, such as Mitsudaki, Otaki, Gokodaki, Gongen Falls, Wakako Falls, and Ara Falls, are seen where water from the mountains flows down the steep rock surfaces.
Because the surrounding environment is favorable, the area has not been developed as a tourist destination, and is known as an unexplored region.
In addition, the Takihata Dam is located downstream and there are barbecue pits in the area, allowing visitors to enjoy nature to the fullest.
It takes about 15 minutes from Kawachinagano Station on the Nankai or Kintetsu lines by bus bound for Takihata Dam, and can be reached on foot.
From the campground located behind Kotakiji Temple, it is about a 5-minute walk to Kotaki Waterfall, which has a drop of about 9 m. From there, it is about a 15-minute walk to Arataki Waterfall and about a 30-minute walk to Gokodaki Waterfall.
A further 40-minute walk will take you to Otaki Waterfall, which is popular as an easy hiking course. Many people enjoy outdoor activities by the river.
