Kuninocho Beer

Locally Crafted Beer from a Historic Sake Brewery

Kuninocho Beer is a locally crafted beer produced by a long-established sake brewery in Settsu-Tonda, one of Japan’s historic brewing areas. The brewery has been making sake since 1822, with a philosophy centered on creating products from the customer’s perspective.

As part of its commitment to offering different types of alcohol for different occasions, the brewery became one of the earliest producers in Osaka to enter the craft beer business. Today, Kuninocho Beer is enjoyed as a local specialty of the Tonda area.

Signature Kuninocho Beers

The brewery’s classic beers feature a distinctive label depicting a jumping frog. Two representative varieties are Kura Kölsch, a brilliant golden-colored beer, and Kura Amber, which has a rich reddish-copper color.

Both beers are made with 100% malt and are unfiltered, allowing the natural flavor and character of the malt to come through.

Unique Beers Inspired by Sake Brewing

The brewery also develops original products that combine its sake-making expertise with beer brewing. One example is Kijo Ale, made by adding junmai sake during the beer fermentation process.

This distinctive approach reflects the brewery’s long history as a sake producer while introducing new ways to enjoy locally made beer.

Popular Brewery Open Days

The brewery holds two brewery open days each year, attracting many fans of Kuninocho’s sake and beer. These events are held around National Foundation Day in February and on the second Saturday of September.

For visitors interested in Japanese brewing culture, Kuninocho Beer offers an opportunity to discover how a historic sake brewery has developed its own approach to craft beer while remaining closely connected to the local community.
