Tempozan Park and Its Highlights
Tempozan Park extends around Tempozan. The park is surrounded by high seawalls and contains several points that are actually higher than the official summit of Tempozan.
With landscaped hills, planted areas, and pleasant walking paths, the park provides a relaxing place to explore while enjoying views of the surrounding waterfront.
Monuments and Historical Significance
Next to the Tempozan second-order triangulation point stands a monument commemorating the first naval fleet review in Japan, held by Emperor Meiji in 1868.
A total of six Japanese vessels, including the Denryumaru, a ship of the Kanrin Maru type, participated along with one French warship. A painting by Okada Saburosuke depicting the event, titled Osaka Gyoko Shohan Gunkan Goran, was later housed at the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery.
Statue of Sutezo Nishimura and Ukiyo-e Ceramic Panels
The park is also home to a bronze statue of Sutezo Nishimura, who made significant contributions to the improvement and construction of the Port of Osaka.
At the seawall near the park entrance, visitors can also see ceramic panels reproducing ukiyo-e prints by Utagawa Hiroshige. The artwork depicts pleasure boating at Tempozan during the Edo period and offers a glimpse into the area’s historical waterfront culture.
The Clock Tower and Its Television Connection
Another feature of the park is a clock tower installed in 1988 as part of a project for the Kansai Television Broadcasting late-night program Endless Night. The clock tower was later donated to Osaka City and remains one of the park’s notable landmarks.
A Waterfront Gateway to Osaka Bay
Tempozan Harbor Village brings together aquariums, shopping, dining, amusement attractions, sightseeing cruises, and waterfront parks in one convenient area.
Its combination of entertainment, ocean scenery, and historical landmarks makes it an appealing destination for visitors exploring Osaka Bay. With Universal Studios Japan located across the river, the area can also be incorporated into a broader Osaka waterfront itinerary.
